David Ortiz, Craig Breslow, Franklin Morales to Start Season on 15-Day Disabled List

The Red Sox will have to survive without David Ortiz to start the 2013 season.

Ortiz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right Achilles tendinopathy retroactive to March 22. Craig Breslow and Franklin Morales were also placed on the 15-day DL with left shoulder tendinitis and a lower back strain respectively.

The Red Sox starting swinging the bat two weeks ago. The designated hitter is set to face live pitching in one-to-two weeks. Ortiz signed a two-year, $26 million contract in November.

The eight-time All Star played in 90 games last season before getting shut down with an Achilles injury. He hit .318 with 23 home runs and 60 RBIs. His 1.026 OPS was his highest since 2007.
