English Soccer Player Tyrone Mings Melts Hearts on Twitter After Giving Game Tickets to Cash-Strapped Fan

Tyrone Mings has become something of a Twitter legend after generously giving tickets to a fan who was low on funds.

The 20-year-old soccer player made a fan’s day after that fan, Tris Monk, struck up a conversation with Mings prior to Ipswitch Town Football Club’s game against Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

“Good luck today, wish I was there to watch,” Monk tweeted at Mings, with the hashtag “skint,” a British slang term for broke.

Mings tweeted back that he’d left two tickets to the game in Monk’s name, adding that he “shouldn’t miss a game cos u can’t afford it.”

More than 5,000 people retweeted the generous soccer player’s offer, and many praised the young man for his altruism.

Monk told the BBC Mings was a “great example to other players.” He added that he often tweeted Ipswitch players on gameday to strike up a conversation, but never expected the response he got. Monk said he thoroughly enjoyed the game.

“It was just amazing,” he said. “It just goes to show, with modern footballers, some do care about the fans.”
