NFL Plans to Stage Power Test for Upcoming Super Bowl to Avoid Electricity Outage at MetLife Stadium
The league plans to simulate electrical power akin to what next year’s Super Bowl will demand ahead of time to avoid the lights going out, Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Daily reports.
After this year’s Super Bowl was interrupted by a 34-minute blackout, the league will simulate similar conditions to make sure MetLife Stadium is ready, according to league senior vice president of events Frank Supovitz.
The NFL is planning on more than MetLife taxing the grid next year — the Meadowlands Sports Complex will have various events around the Super Bowl that will call for high electricity usage.
“We are going to account for every amp for the first time,” Supovitz said.
