Report: Brent Grimes Agreed to Terms on One-Year, $5.5 Million Deal With Dolphins

Brent Grimes couldn’t have hit free agency at a worse time.

The one-time Pro Bowler was one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL in 2010 before missing four games in 2011 and the entire 2012 season with injuries. The 29-year-old will be able to prove himself on a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, though. Grimes agreed to terms on a $5.5 million contract with $3 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Not only is Grimes coming off a torn Achilles, but this is also one of the toughest markets for free agent cornerbacks. Aqib Talib was only able to get a one-year, $5 million contract with the Patriots and Sean Smith, who Grimes will be replacing in Miami, was only able to sign for three years and $16.5 million with the Chiefs. All things considered, Grimes was smart to wait out the market. He’s making more than Talib and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who also got a one-year, $5 million contract.
