When the Red Sox travel to the Bronx on April 1, it appears an unfamiliar face will be playing shortstop for the Yankees.
Derek Jeter is likely heading to the disabled list, ending the possibility that the legendary shortstop will be ready for opening day, according to Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the revised goal for Jeter to be ready is April 6.
Jeter hasn’t played in a Grapefruit League game since March 16. He played designated hitter in a minor league game on Saturday. Jeter has been experiencing inflammation in the left ankle he broke during Game 1 of last season’s ALCS.
The Yankees will already be without Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira to start the season.
