Report: Jets, Patriots Wanted Danny Woodhead Before Chargers Swooped In, Signed Him

Patriots fans would have been green with envy if they had seen Danny Woodhead suit up with the Jets once again. Luckily for New Englanders, San Diego stole the undersized running back away.

The Jets were in serious discussions to bring Woodhead back to New York, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. The Patriots were also interested in re-signing the third-down back, but the Chargers’ “agressive pitch” stole him away.

Woodhead signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He spent two seasons with the organization before getting cut one game into the 2010 season after becoming a star on HBO’s series Hard Knocks.

Woodhead’s best pro season came in 2010 with the Patriots when he had 97 carries for 547 yards and five touchdowns and 34 receptions for 379 yards and one touchdown through the air. Last season, Woodhead caught 40 passes for 446 yards and three touchdowns while adding 76 carries for 301 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
