Report: Victor Cruz May Be Potential Target for Patriots, But Agent Change Makes Deal Unlikely

Victor Cruz may be salsa dancing his way out of the New York/New Jersey area this offseason.

The Pro Bowl wide receiver was given a restricted free agent tender at the first-round level by the Giants on Monday, making him free to field contract propositions from other teams.

The Patriots were among those interested in Cruz’s services, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, but the wideout’s decision to hire agent Tom Condon has reportedly soured him in the eyes of the New England front office. As La Canfora reports, the Patriots historically have not done business with Condon.

Though it will likely take big money to sign Cruz away from New York — coupled with the Giants’ ability to match any offer within a five-day window — the UMass product is arguably the top receiver currently on the market, providing more upside to prospective teams than Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings or Danny Amendola.

Two high-profile receivers switched uniforms already on Monday, with the Vikings dealing Percy Harvin to Seattle and the Ravens sending Anquan Boldin to San Francisco.
