Sidney Crosby Leaves Jarome Iginla’s Penguins Debut, Needs Surgery After Being Hit in Face With Puck (Video)

The Penguins will have to go for their 15th straight victory Saturday without captain Sidney Crosby.

The Pittsburgh superstar took a puck right to the face in the first period against the Islanders and headed to the hospital after the injury. Teammate Brooks Orpik‘s shot deflected and struck Crosby directly in the face, causing him to bleed and leave the game.

Crosby’s injury has to be overshadowing Jarome Iginla‘s debut for the Penguins, in which many fans were hoping to see the fellow Canadians on the ice together.

After the game, the team announced that Crosby lost some teeth and underwent oral surgery. However, Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma is unsure if Crosby’s jaw was involved in the procedure.
