Mike Bossy Was the Last Islander to Lead the NHL in Goals Scored

Mike Bossy‘s 68 goals during the 1980-81 season were enough to give him the top spot in the league that year. Bossy edged out Marcel Dionne, who finished with 58 that season with the Los Angeles Kings.

The ’81 season was a special one for the Islanders, as they rode Bossy’s 68 goals to a 110-point season. New York was great during the postseason as well, knocking off the Minnesota North Stars in five games to win the Stanley Cup.

With John Tavares currently sitting in third place, the Islanders hope their luck with a big goal scorer will continue as they move toward their first postseason birth in six years.
