Patriots Take Wide Receiver Aaron Dobson With Their Second Second-Round Pick

Aaron DobsonBill Belichick had two picks in the second round, and he actually used both of them.

After taking linebacker Jamie Collins just minutes before at No. 52 overall, the Patriots used their other second-rounder (No. 59) on Marshall wide receiver Aaron Dobson.

Dobson is a freak athlete and should provide some much-needed size on the outside for Tom Brady. He measured in at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at Marshall’s pro day last  month.

His numbers over four years with the Thundering Herd won’t blow you away, but he does know how to get the ball into the end zone. He caught 165 passes and 24 touchdowns over four seasons, including 49 catches and 12 touchdowns in 2011 followed by 57 catches for 679 yards and three scores as a senior.

But Dobson’s most impressive number won’t be found on any stat sheet. As a senior, Dobson dropped zero passes — that’s right, zero — on 92 targets. Both Belichick and Brady have to love that number as it shows just how sure-handed he is.
