Talk about good timing.
Braves rookie catcher Evan Gattis dug in for his second career at-bat in the fourth inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Phillies and future Hall of Famer Roy Halladay. What happened next was miraculous.
During the at-bat, Gattis’ father was being interviewed on live TV. His old man began talking about his son’s rough past (which included drug abuse, employment problems and even quitting baseball). Just as the interview was getting good, Gattis had to go ahead and interrupt his pops by smacking his first-career hit: a solo home run to deep left-center.
“He told me he was done and I — there he goes!”
