Shaquille O’Neal Jersey Retirement Muffed by Lakers, Who Hang Backwards Jersey Among Other L.A. Greats (Photos)

Tuesday night’s Lakers ceremony retiring Shaquille O’Neal‘s jersey was a special affair. Jack Nicholson appeared, the fans chanted for Phil Jackson to return, and even O’Neal and Kobe Bryant appeared to be getting on good footing as Los Angeles honored No. 34.

But, as tends to happen in some special moments, the Lakers got one little detail wrong. That little detail is now on display for anyone looking to size up Shaq against the rest of the legendary Lakers.

While the jersey replica the Lakers gave O’Neal in a frame was a regular, name-on-the-back shirt, the jersey that was lifted into the rafters Tuesday night was a bit askew. Rather than having O’Neal’s name displayed on the back of a jersey, as is custom, O’Neal’s name and number appear under a notched neck — obviously the front of the jersey. It’s a small mistake but one that may lead to a little switcheroo during nongame hours, unless the Lakers want the backwards jersey to be a permanent addition to their collection.

Check out the snafu in the photos below.

This is Shaq getting his jersey. It looks great.
