Before Monday night, there had only been five dunks in the history of the WNBA. After the Phoenix Mercury played the Chicago Sky, that total had been upped to seven, and by the time Brittney Griner‘s career is done that total figures to be much, much higher.
The former Baylor standout made her WNBA debut on Monday, and after gaining fame during college for her ability to dunk, Griner did just that in her first taste of the professional ranks. Griner, in fact, dunked twice during the game.
Griner’s first dunk came with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, and was a one-handed jam off a swing pass. The second, however, was far more impressive, and came with about 2:30 left in the game. Griner had a loose ball come right to her, leaving her open to go in for a two-handed dunk that definitely had some leverage to it.
