Duron Harmon, Patriots’ Third-Round Pick, Becomes First 2013 Rookie to Sign With Team

The most surprising of the Patriots’ 2013 draft picks has become the first to sign, as the team inked a deal with third-round pick Duron Harmon on Monday.

The former Rutgers defensive back was an unlikely choice by Bill Belichick at No. 91 overall. Harmon totaled 50 tackles and seven pass breakups during his senior season, earning a second straight first-team All-Big East selection, but he had not been invited to the NFL combine and was not on many draft experts’ radars during Day 2.

It had been speculated that linebacker Steve Beauharnais — another Scarlet Knights alum who was chosen in the seventh round — had also signed with the team on Monday, but those rumors were shot down by Beauharnais’ agent.

The terms of Harmon’s deal have not yet been released.
