Jonathan Quick’s Gaffe Behind Net Leads to Blues’ Shorthanded Winner in Overtime (Video)

The Los Angeles Kings may still be the last possessors of the silver championship chalice, but on Tuesday night, their standout goalie gave up the first game of the playoffs on a silver platter.

Jonathan Quick watched a night of hard work disappear in overtime against the St. Louis Blues, losing the game for the Kings in the worst kind of way. After logging 73 minutes and turning away 40 shots, Quick had the advantage in overtime, with the Blues playing shorthanded after a penalty on Kevin Shattenkirk. That advantage quickly disappeared, though, when Quick swooped behind the net to clean up a puck and failed to see Alex Steen steaming down the ice.

Steen snagged the puck from Quick and darted around the net before the goalie could get back, whipping in the game-winner and making Quick look downright silly for leaving his net unattended.

Check out the great play by Steen in Quick’s un-finest moment below.
