Tiger Woods Calls Sergio Garcia’s ‘Fried Chicken’ Comments ‘Wrong, Hurtful, Clearly Inappropriate’

Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia really don’t like each other.

But really, it’s pretty fun to see two athletes show clear, open disdain for one another. It stops being fun when rivalry turns to racism, though.

That’s what happened on Tuesday when Garcia controversially said when asked if he would have Woods over for dinner during the U.S. Open, “We will have him around every night. We will serve fried chicken.”

Woods responded via Twitter, and he didn’t hold back his disappointment in Garcia’s words.

To his credit, Garcia did apologize right away for his regrettable comments.

“I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players’ Awards dinner,” Garcia said. “I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.”

So Garcia said it was a silly response and Woods didn’t find it so silly. The 2013 U.S. Open will be played from June 13-16. All eyes will be on Woods and Garcia as their ongoing feud escalates.

It may not be great for Garcia’s image to be making racist remarks toward Woods, but it certainly won’t hurt ratings for the U.S. Open.
