New Era had reportedly released the wrong image for the hat, assuming that all MLB teams would be using their primary logos for the celebratory lids. The hats displayed the typical Native American caricature covered in white stars surrounded by red and blue, resembling features of the American flag.
The Indians will now sport a hat with the letter “C” stitched across the front in block lettering, covered in white stars with red and blue trim. All MLB teams wear the special stars and stripes caps on the Fourth of July as a celebration of America’s Independence Day.
Even though the erroneous hats should have never been manufactured in the first place, kudos to Major League baseball for fixing the mistake before the Indians take the field on the holiday.
Check out the new version that the Indians will sport on July 4.
