Ex-Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood made a gruesome discovery Monday morning.
Wood was paddle boarding in Belmont Harbor in Chicago when he discovered a man’s body floating in the water, according to the Chicago Tribune. Wood immediately notified police of the incident.
The victim had an identification tag on his left wrist indicating that the man had been reported missing by a North Side nursing home after being released by a local hospital on June 19, according to the police report. An autopsy conducted on Monday was inconclusive, according to Chicago police.
Wood and his wife Sarah said they had no comment after the incident.
Wood recently announced that he accepted a position as a Cubs spring instructor after retiring in May 2012.
