Report: Brian Scalabrine in Talks With Warriors About Assistant Coaching Job

One of the most beloved bench players in NBA history may be making a return to the league.

Brian Scalabrine‘s playing days are unfortuntely behind him, but the Golden State Warriors are considering bringing the former Celtics power forward in as an assistant coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojarowski.

Scal, as he was known by many in Boston, turned down a similar position with Chicago after retiring in 2012. He instead chose to go into broadcasting, becoming an analyst for Comcast SportsNet’s Celtics coverage.

After beginning his career with New Jersey, Scalabrine spent five seasons in Boston, where he was a part of both the 2008 NBA championship team and the 2010 squad the fell to the Lakers in the NBA Finals. He became a cult hero among Celtics fans, a status he also enjoyed while playing out the final two years of his career in Chicago.

Scalabrine reportedly met last week with Golden State head coach Mark Jackson, whose talented young squad led by sharp-shooter Stephen Curry upset the Nuggets in the first round of this year’s NBA playoffs before being bounced by San Antonio in six games.
