Report: Doc Rivers Deal Hung Up on Clippers Agreeing to Take Jason Terry or Courtney Lee

The deal to send Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers for a compensation package is extremely close to being consummated, with only one last snag before an agreement can be reached.

The Clippers are balking at having to assume either Jason Terry‘s or Courtney Lee‘s contract, CSNNE reports. The Celtics have made that a condition of the deal after the Clippers refused to include Eric Bledsoe, whom the Celtics coveted. As soon as the Clippers agree to acquire Terry or Lee — or if the Celtics back off from their demand — Rivers and Garnett will no longer be Celtics.

As part of the reported deal, the Celtics would get center DeAndre Jordan, forward Caron Butler and at least one future draft pick.

Terry, 35, averaged 10.1 points in 79 games this season in the first year of a three-year, $15.7 million contract. He has two years and roughly $10.6 million left on his deal, but with a 7.5 percent trade kicker. Lee, 27, averaged 7.8 points in 78 games, including 39 starts. He is due about $16.35 million over the next three years.
