Terrell Owens Says He’s Retiring If He Doesn’t Sign With an NFL Team This Season

Terrell Owens‘ NFL playing days may soon finally be numbered.

The 39-year-old free agent wide receiver, who hasn’t played in the NFL since a stint with the Bengals in 2010, said in an interview with CBSSports.com this week that he’ll call it a career if he doesn’t play in the league this season.

“If I play this year, that’d be awesome,” Owens said. “If I don’t play this year, I’m retiring.

“That’s just me being realistic. I want to play again. I want to go out on top with a team. I think I can still play, but if I don’t sign with a team, it would be time to retire. I have to be honest with myself.”

If he doesn’t sign with a team, Owens is undoubtedly still a future Hall of Famer. He ranks second all-time in receiving yards, third in receiving touchdowns and made six Pro Bowls in his 15-year career, which was filled with controversy and accusations of dividing locker rooms.

And even if he doesn’t find a team to play for, Owens’ professional career in sports may not be over. The receiver said last week that he’s eyeing a career as a professional bowler.
