Brandon Bolden Wasn’t Able to Run Because of Sprained Ankle in Offseason, Expected to Be Healthy by Camp

Brandon Bolden missed most of the Patriots’ offseason workouts with some foot injury. Now, we know exactly how severe that injury was.

Bolden, who was a reliable backup in the backfield at times last season, sprained his ankle  while lifting during the offseason and was unable to run, which is what kept him from partaking in team drills, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Bolden apparently hurt his ankle while lifting weights on his own during the offseason, failing to plant his foot properly on a lift. He was a limited participant during mandatory minicamp, but he was unable to do any individual drills during the two-day practice period.

Bolden is expected to meet with team trainers on Monday to see if his ankle has healed sufficiently to fully participate in training camp later this month. He ran the ball 56 times for 274 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games as a rookie. Bolden was also suspended four game for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
