Brandon Workman Makes First Major League Start as Red Sox Take on Athletics

The last time that Brandon Workman took the mound for the Red Sox was during his major league debut on Wednesday. Things didn’t go as planned for Workman, though, as he saw his ERA climb to 13.50 in two innings of work.

The Sox hope that Sunday will go better for him, as he makes his first major league start. He will have his work cut out for him, though, as he will have to keep a solid Oakland team at bay, with the added stress of facing a resurgent Bartolo Colon to boot.

Colon has been a pleasant surprise for the A’s with his 12-3 record and 2.69 ERA in 18 starts this year. He is also heading to his third career All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Boston’s starting lineup will look a little different than during Saturday night’s 3-0 loss. Daniel Nava will move to right field in order to give Shane Victorino a day off, Jonny Gomes will take over in left field, Mike Carp will get the start at first base and Ryan Lavarnway will get the nod at catcher.
