Report: Kurt Rambis ‘Close’ to Joining Lakers Coaching Staff

The NBA offseason has been far from quiet, and the Lakers are getting ready to make some more noise.

The Lakers and Kurt Rambis are “close” to making a deal that would return the former assistant coach to Los Angeles, according to ESPN.

Rambis is a familiar face in the organization, where he’s played, coached and worked in the front office. He spent time with the Lakers, on and off, from 1999-2009. He left Los Angeles for Minnesota in 2009, where he spent two years as head coach before being fired.

Mike D’Antoni, head coach of the Lakers, and brother Dan D’Antoni, an assistant coach, have watched summer league games in Las Vegas with Rambis in recent weeks, according to ESPN.
