Robinson Cano Leaves All-Star Game After Taking Matt Harvey Pitch Off Knee in First Inning (GIF)

The last thing the Yankees need is to see one of their players go down in an exhibition game.

That’s exactly what happened Tuesday night, though, when a 97-mph fastball from Mets ace Matt Harvey hit Robinson Cano in the right knee, forcing the Yankees second baseman to exit the All-Star Game in the first inning. Cano walked to first base but was soon removed from the game, with Dustin Pedroia taking his place in the lineup.

Though the beanball did not seem at all intentional (Harvey said he “felt terrible” about it in an interview during the second inning), it would prove devastating for an already injury-ravaged Yankees team if Cano’s condition is serious.

Update: Good news, Yankees fans. It looks like Cano’s X-rays have come back negative.
