The league swapped out the trot around the bases for an All-Star 5K Fun Run at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, N.Y., and all proceeds will go to Sandy Relief efforts. The likes of Tony La Russa, John Franco, Hall of Famer Frank Robinson and mascots from around the league showed up to support the cause.
It is estimated that more than 8,000 runners participated in the race, according to MLB.com. The registration fees went directly to relief funds and Major League Baseball is donating an additional $1 million.
After the race, the festivities moved to Central Park, where Mariah Carey and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra headlined a free concert.
