The Bruins were founded in 1924, making them the third-oldest team in the NHL and the oldest in the United States. They boast six Stanley Cup championships, the fifth most of all time, and the team likes to celebrate its history with various patches.
In addition to Stanley Cups and special events, other occasions have called for patches. The B’s held Willie O’Ree night to honor the former Bruin for breaking the color barrier in the NHL. The Bruins also wore Boston Strong patches to remember the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. Those jerseys were eventually auctioned off and raffled, with proceeds going to The One Fund.
Bruins players will celebrate 90 years of history with black and gold anniversary patches next season.
