LaTroy Hawkins Hit in Groin Without Cup, Unable to Walk to Mets’ Bus After Game (GIF)

The lesson here is to always wear your cup, kids.

Mets reliever LaTroy Hawkins had a bad day Wednesday. Not only did New York lose to L.A. 5-4 in 12 innings by giving up two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game, but Hawkins gave up those two runs on an Andre Ethier home run. Not only did Hawkins yield that home run to Ethier, but one batter prior, pitching to Jerry Hairston Jr., Hawkins took a comebacker off a very sensitive part of his body.

“It was a direct hit — no cup,” Hawkins told reporters after the game. “When I lifted my leg, I could feel my [testicles] in my throat, but I thought I could get through it. I feel like I got kicked by a mule, and it hurts.”

Hawkins was in so much pain after the game that he could barely walk. In fact, two hours after the game ended, Hawkins had to literally be carried to the team bus, according to MLB.com Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo.
