In a much less heartwarming tale, Sharapova is reportedly planning to change her last name to “Sugarpova,” the candy company that she has invested half a million dollars into. The change will not be permanent, however, as Sharapova only wants to be Ms. Sugarpova for two weeks — the duration of the U.S. Open.
According to reports, Sharapova has already approached the Florida Supreme Court about the temporary name change.
Sharapova will also sport the candy line’s logo, a set of lips, on her clothes at the tournament, which she won back in 2006. Recently rated the highest-earning female athlete in the world by Forbes, she probably doesn’t need to take the drastic measures for this shameless promotion, but hearing announcers having to refer to the 26-year-old as Sugarpova for 14 days may make this marketing scheme worth it.

This is why bleacher seats aren’t such a bad idea after all.
