It’s looking like a good decision by the Red Sox to pass on acquiring Matt Garza at the trade deadline.
Not only did Boston trade for Jake Peavy instead, who was stellar in his Red Sox debut, the team also doesn’t have deal with Garza’s controversial tweets. That’s on the Texas Rangers now.
Garza went on a tirade against Eric Sogard after the Oakland Athletics shortstop laid down a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning, bringing home an insurance run. Garza isn’t the greatest fielder, so the pitcher was none too pleased by the play and barked at Sogard on his way back to the dugout.
Garza played it off after the game, telling the press when asked what he said to Sogard, “I asked him if there were any good places to eat in Oakland.”
It became clear that’s not what Garza asked when he took to Twitter later. Check out Garza’s strange, sexist tweets directed at Sogard and his wife Kaycee in the screenshot below.

It’s unclear what set off Garza. The only tweet on Kaycee Sogard’s Twitter account that references the play is below.
