MLB’s decision of whether to suspend Dempster for what many think was an intentional beaning of Rodriguez on Sunday night will come Tuesday, and Dempster will probably be suspended, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Dempster and his Red Sox manager, John Farrell, both said after Sunday’s game that Dempster was just trying to pitch inside. But most others, including Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who has given a vociferous defense of his embattled third baseman, said the plunking was clearly intentional. They say Dempster was trying to send a message to Rodriguez, who is playing while appealing his 211-game suspension from MLB and is accused of using performance-enhancing drugs.
