Less than 24 hours after leading the Red Sox to victory, both Shane Victorino and Jarrod Saltalamacchia will be back in the lineup, looking to continue their impressive hot streaks as they try to help Boston grab the rubber game of its series with Arizona at Fenway Park.
Victorino and Saltalamacchia both hit home runs in Saturday night’s win. Saltalamacchia two-run blast in the eighth inning gave the Sox some much-needed breathing room for Koji Uehara to shut the door on a 5-2 win. The catcher now has hit safely in six of his last seven games, which includes two homers in that span. For Victorino, the right fielder has at least a hit in his last five games and is 10-for-23 in that span.
Both will try to keep it rolling Sunday against the Diamondbacks, who will send Brandon McCarthy to the hill. It will be McCarthy’s first start since May 30, when he suffered right shoulder inflammation and went on the disabled list. The right-hander is 2-4 with a 5.00 ERA this season.
The Red Sox will send out Felix Doubront, who will try to make a bit of history. The lefty has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last 14 starts, which is the best by any pitcher in Sox history since Pedro Martinez did it in 2002. Doubront is 7-5 with a 3.77 ERA this season, but he’s lost his last two starts — both against Tampa Bay.
