Tom Brady, Danny Amendola Developing Chemistry, Hand Signals at Line of Scrimmage

In the Patriots’ complex offense, it’s important for receivers to be on the same page as Tom Brady. During Tuesday’s joint practice with the Eagles, Danny Amendola proved he was seeing the same coverage the Patriots could exploit in the defense as his quarterback.

Brady and Amendola exchanged some pre-snap signals before a touchdown pass, according to Erik Scavalino of Patriots.com.

“Yeah, we’re working at it,” Brady said to the media. “There are adjustments at the line of scrimmage, which are always important, especially in today’s game where the defenses are so multiple, you have to be able to make adjustments at the line of scrimmage. When you get these situations that we had [Tuesday], they can play out in a lot of different ways. For us to be on the same page is really important. The more we do it, the better we’re getting at it. We just have to stay with it.”

It’s not easy to replace a player like Wes Welker, but Amendola is already on his way. He’s been the team’s best receiver during training camp, and it’s not especially close. Brady is enjoying having his new toy around.

“Danny’s done a great job,” Brady said. “He’s fun to be out there with. He takes practice very seriously. He’s an extremely hard worker, wants to do the right thing on every single play and has very high expectations for himself. It’s been fun. We’re in constant communication. He loves football, so it’s a great teammate to have.”
