Joe Girardi, Buck Showalter Restrained by Umpires During Heated Argument Between Managers (Video)

The Yankees and Orioles are still very much in the playoff hunt, making the four-game series the two division rivals opened up Monday night a crucial one. It didn’t take long for the ill will between these two teams to become clear.

During the break between the first and second inning, Yankees manager Joe Girardi and his Baltimore counterpart, Buck Showalter, began spewing obscenities at one another from across the diamond. The two skippers then brought their dispute to home plate, where umpires and fellow coaches had to physically separate them.

The root of the argument? Sign stealing, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Things settled down after the early theatrics, and the O’s took home a 4-2 win, putting them just 1 1/2 games back of Tampa Bay in the race for the American League’s final wild-card spot.
