It looks like the Washington Capitals are about to be back on one of the NHL’s biggest stages next season.
The Caps will host the 2015 Winter Classic, according to reports. The Washington Post reports that the opponent and the actual location of the game are unknown at this point. Two logical locations would be FedEx Field, home of the Redskins, and the Nationals’ home ballpark of Nationals Park.
The Capitals announced earlier in the week that they would be making a big announcement this weekend. The official word from the club is expected to come Saturday at a team function.
Washington has played in the Winter Classic before. The Capitals squared off with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2011 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. The buildup to that game also featured the debut of 24/7: The Road to the Winter Classic on HBO, which followed the two clubs in the weeks leading up to the Winter Classic.
