Report: Eagles Could Have Traded for Colin Kaepernick, Chose to Draft Russell Wilson Instead, Wound Up With Neither

The Eagles did not know Chip Kelly would be their head coach in April 2012, but they almost wound up with two quarterbacks who would have been perfect to run his high-tempo offense.

Philadelphia was set to trade a second-round pick for Colin Kaepernick before the 2012 draft, according to ESPN.com. The Eagles did not pull the trigger on the trade, deciding to draft Russell Wilson instead.

The draft did not shake out as expected, though, as Wilson was drafted 13 picks before Philly’s third-round pick. The Eagles settled on Nick Foles instead and the rest is history.

Kaepernick led the 49ers to the Super Bowl, Wilson has many pundits predicting a title run for Seattle and Philadelphia has Michael Vick starting with Foles and Matt Barkley as backups.

If the Eagles could do it all over again, they certainly would have pulled off the trade for Kaepernick, or chose to pick Wilson with either of the second-round picks used on Mychael Kendricks and Vinny Curry.
