Rob Ryan Bought Drinks for Entire New Orleans Bar After Saints’ Win Over Falcons

Rob Ryan is a man of the people.

After the Saints opened its season with a 23-17 win over division rival Atlanta, Ryan, who is tasked with turning around the worst defense — statistically speaking — in NFL history, wanted to share the glory with the people of New Orleans.

Shortly after the game ended, Ryan strolled into Ms. Mae’s, a dive bar in the Uptown section of the city, and bought everyone in attendance a round of drinks.

“He put down 100 bucks and was like buy everybody a round and keep the change,” bartender Jason Matherne told the NOLA Defender.

That much cash may not go very far in some establishments, but Matherne assured the Defender that Ryan’s contribution was more than enough to satisfy his patrons.

“In here, that’s like a fortune,” he said.

The Saints’ new defensive coordinator seems to be endearing himself to the city of New Orleans already, and he is off to a positive start on the field, as well. One week is a minuscule sample size, but after allowing an average of 440 yards per game last season, the Saints yielded just 367 against the Falcons.
