Carl Yastrzemski Will Throw Out First Pitch Before Game 1 of World Series

Before Jon Lester and Adam Wainwright take the mound in Game 1 of the World Series, Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski will do the honors.

The Hall of Famer will throw out the first pitch on Wednesday night at Fenway Park. Yaz’s 23 seasons in baseball were all spent with the Red Sox, and he is Boston’s all-time leader in games played (3,308), runs (1,816), hits (3,419) and RBIs (1,844).

Earlier this season, the Red Sox unveiled a statue of Yaz outside the ballpark, depicting the outfielder tipping his helmet before his final at-bat on Oct. 2, 1983.

Major League Baseball also announced that 14-year-old Deon Singletary of the West End House Boys & Girls Club will deliver the ball to the mound. He will be accompanied by Luis Tiant.
