Eastern Michigan Receiver Demarius Reed Found Dead, Police Investigating Death as Homicide

An Eastern Michigan University wide receiver was found dead in an off-campus apartment building Friday morning.

Details have not been released, but police are investigating the death of Demarius Reed, a junior, as a homicide, according to a statement released by the school just before noon on Friday.

“Eastern Michigan University has confirmed with the Ypsilanti Police Department that the victim involved in the homicide investigation reported in the timely warning earlier today is Eastern Michigan University student Demarius Reed,” the statement read. “He is a student athlete on the football team. As was reported earlier, the incident happened off campus in the 700 block of West Clark Road, near the intersection of LeForge Road and Clark Road. It was discovered at 7:15 this morning. Ypsilanti Police are investigating the death and are in close contact with the EMU Police Department.”

Reed, a Chicago native, caught 15 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown in six games with the Eagles this season.

“We are all deeply saddened by the tragic news this morning involving student-athlete Demarius Reed,” the EMU athletic department said in a statement posted on its Facebook page. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and his teammates and coaches on the football team.”
