Jordan Staal Hits Post, Somehow Doesn’t Score as Goal Drought Continues (Video)

Jordan Staal is no stranger to goal scoring. Through his first seven seasons, the Carolina Hurricanes alternate captain has lit the lamp 130 times. This season, though, things just aren’t going Staal’s way. Entering Sunday, the centerman had been held scoreless through his first five games — although to be fair, his 12 shots on goal don’t even rank in the top 30 of the league and pale in comparison to league leader Alex Ovechkin‘s 38.

Game No. 6 didn’t prove any fairer, as Staal had his best chance of the season turned away by the hockey gods. After handling a nice pass from teammate Patrick Dwyer on an odd-man advantage, Staal’s shot beat Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith, hit the crossbar and fell straight down, but somehow did not cross the goal line.

Check out a video of the incredibly unlucky shot below.
