Josh Cribbs Says Jets Are ‘Not the Browns,’ Won’t Give Up After Loss, Then Claims He Was Misquoted

Josh Cribbs seems to have backed himself into a bit of a corner here.

Cribbs’ Jets were savaged by Cincinnati on Sunday, and the kick returner/wide receiver tried to describe his new team’s resilience by comparing it — disparagingly — to his old squad’s.

“We’re not the Browns,” Cribbs told Newsday on Sunday. “We’re not the team that gives up. We have fight in this team. They’re a motivated bunch of young guys. I’m just happy to be here and be able to contribute. … [I] love it here.

“We lost. It’s going to be a lesson for us and we’re going to play harder. It’s good that it comes now because we’re still in the mix of this. We’re halfway through the season.”

Naturally, these comments have not gone over well in Cleveland, where Cribbs spent the first eight seasons of his career and made a name for himself as one of the top return men in NFL history. Now, after being catching heat from Browns fans on social media, he’s claiming that Newsday misquoted him.

Cribbs released the following message from his Twitter account Monday night.

The 49-9 loss to the Bengals dropped the Jets to 4-4 on the season. They host the NFC South-leading Saints this Sunday.
