Mike NapoliIt’s a whole new series in Detroit, with the Red Sox and Tigers holding a game apiece as they head to Comerica Park for Game 3 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday afternoon.

All looked lost for Boston as late as the sixth inning of Game 2 on Sunday night before an RBI double by Dustin Pedroia started to turn things around. One David Ortiz grand slam later, and the Sox are suddenly in pretty good position as they send John Lackey to the mound against Detroit’s Justin Verlander.

Lackey has said his whole time in Boston that he came to the Sox for a chance at a championship, and he gets another try at contributing to that Tuesday afternoon. After a stellar regular season, he was roughed up for four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Rays in the ALDS. He’ll try to rectify that Tuesday against Verlander, who hasn’t been his usual sharp self this year but was dominant (eight innings pitched, two hits allowed, 10 strikeouts) in closing out the A’s last Thursday.

The Red Sox and Tigers got some practice Monday afternoon in Detroit. Take a look at them preparing for what has become a very entertaining series.
