The Dodgers became the first team to secure their place in baseball’s final four Monday night, and they did so in dramatic fashion.
With the Braves leading 3-2 after 7 1/2 innings in Game 4, Yasiel Puig got the L.A. rally going with a double to lead off the bottom of the eighth. After the next batter, Juan Uribe, was unsuccessful on an attempt to bunt Puig to third, manager Don Mattingly gave the go-ahead for his third baseman to swing away.
That decision paid off.
Uribe deposited a David Carpenter pitch into the seats just inside the left field foul pole for a go-ahead, two-run homer, and closer Kenley Jansen struck out the side in the ninth to knock out the Braves and send the Dodgers to the NLCS.
After the home team celebrated accordingly — this is the same club, after all, that hosted a nice little pool party in Arizona after clinching the NL West — and a few neutral parties got caught in the crossfire.
While Uribe was being interviewed on the field by the always extravagant Craig Sager, Puig nailed him with the ceremonial Gatorade shower. The game’s hero wasn’t the only one to get wet, though, as the downpour soaked Sager and caused some, well, technical difficulties for the poor TBS cameraman.
