Brandon Meriweather Keeps Promise, Stays Low, Takes Big Shot at Danny Woodhead’s Knees (GIF)

Brandon Meriweather has finally learned not to aim high anymore — it only took him a one-game suspension and over $100,000 in fines. Now, instead of the head, though, Meriweather said he’s going after knees.

The Redskins safety got his first open-field opportunity off of suspension during the second quarter on Sunday, and he made good on his promise. Chargers running back Danny Woodhead caught a pass out in the flat and tried to make a move out in space, but Meriweather was there to greet him with an all-out dive at the back’s knees.

Meriweather came under a lot of heat earlier this week for his comments about aiming low from now on. The big issue surrounded Meriweather’s claim that he would be aiming for ACLs and to “end careers.”

It seems that he might be all talk, though. The safety did go low on Woodhead, but it looked like a perfectly clean hit and there was no malicious intent — at least none that could be seen.
