Dolphins’ Ryan Tannehill Says Richie Incognito, Jonathan Martin Were Best Friends

The story surrounding Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito allegedly bullying teammate Jonathan Martin took another turn on Wednesday.

When asked about the situation , Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill explained that Incognito and Martin weren’t enemies, but actually friends.

“If you ask Jonathan Martin about Richie two weeks ago he would’ve said he’s his best friend,” Tannehill told reporters. “Jonathan Martin was like Richie Incognito’s little brother.” He also added that “You can’t help a situation you didn’t know existed, that nobody in this locker room knew existed.”

These comments from Tannehill seem a bit strange considering Incognito was recently suspended indefinitely from the team for his alleged involvement in Martin being bullied during his time with the Dolphins. Incognito allegedly left a voice mail for Martin back in April in which he called his offensive line teammate a racial slur and threatened to kill him.

A few other Dolphins players defended Incognito on Wednesday, including wide receiver Brian Hartline.

Martin left the Dolphins before their game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, and it’s unknown when he will return to the team. The NFL is currently investigating Incognito’s alleged behavior toward Martin.
