Ed Reed Says Texans Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips Is ‘Probably the Reason I’m Not [in Houston]’

Conflict with the coaching staff has been rumored as the primary reason why Ed Reed didn’t stick in Houston. Those rumors now appear to be true.

On a conference call with Baltimore reporters Wednesday ahead of his first game against the Ravens, with whom he spent 10 highly successful seasons, Reed said disagreement with Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was the primary reason behind his release.

Reed’s brief tenure in Houston was disastrous for both sides. The safety recorded just 14 tackles and failed to haul in an interception in seven games of limited playing time, and the Texans — the two-time defending AFC South champions — were a mere 2-7 at the time of his release.

His time in New York has gotten off to a rocky start, as well. Reed recorded three total tackles in his Jets debut, a blowout loss in Buffalo.
