Tony Romo is a freaking national hero.
The same week he landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Romo came through for the Cowboys in their Thanksgiving game, leading Dallas to victory over the Oakland Raiders. And, get this — he did it while battling the flu.
Romo told reporters after the Cowboys’ 31-24 win Thursday that he had been fighting a virus all day. He played it down, but he was said to be vomiting and taking fluids through an IV earlier in the day, and he wasn’t on the field early for practice throws, according to Pro Football Talk.
“Whatever it is, bug some shape or form,” Romo said. “Just, you know, you just kind of feel down. But it’s no different than guys playing through pain or any of that junk. Just part of playing football. … It’s a virus. It runs its toll, and you try and get better. No big deal.”
Romo was a crisp 23-for-32 (71.9 percent) for 225 yards and one touchdown in the win.
