Rick Carlisle Pulls Out ‘Popovich Impersonation,’ Gives One-Word Answers During Mavericks Game (Video)

Sorry, Chris Broussard. You’ll have to get your quotes somewhere else.

Broussard, serving as ESPN’s courtside reporter for Wednesday night’s Mavericks-Rockets game, pulled Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle aside prior to the fourth quarter to ask how his team planned on defending Dwight Howard over the final 12 minutes.

Howard had torched the Mavs for 27 points on 11-of-11 shooting through the first three quarters, so Carlisle was not in the mood to chat. Instead, he kept his answers as brief as possible, paying homage to the Spurs’ notoriously gruff bench boss with what he called his “[Gregg] Popovich impersonation.”

Although Carlisle declined to reveal his game plan, it worked. Dallas outscored Houston 36-19 in the fourth quarter and held Howard to six points the rest of the way en route to a 123-120 win.
