Among all the terrific places to play throughout the Hockey East conference, four stand out among all the rest. Vermont’s Gutterson Fieldhouse, Maine’s Alfond Arena, New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center and Notre Dame’s Compton Family Ice Arena.
The Gutterson Fieldhouse, located in Burlington, V.T., holds a little more than 4,000 fans and is usually packed to the gills with crazy Catamount fans screaming at the top of their lungs. The Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine, holds upwards of 5,100 fans and features a nice student section to help get the Black Bears fans rowdy throughout the game. The Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H., is the biggest of the bunch, hosting more than 6,500 on any given game day, and the dedicated Wildcat fans fill that place out quite often. The Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind., is one of the newest additions to the Hockey East family, but with a capacity crowd of more than 5,000 at nearly every home game, they already boast an environment fit for the conference.
Which Hockey East arena do you think gives its team the best home ice advantage?
