Adrian Peterson Admits He’s Thought About Playing for Other Teams, Especially Cowboys, Texans

Adrian Peterson has been to the playoffs just three times in his seven-year career, and he’s unlikely to make the postseason again this season. So, it’s no surprise that the NFL’s best running back has at least considered playing elsewhere at some points in his career.

Peterson was asked about the Vikings’ current situation, sitting at 3-8-1 entering the home stretch of the season, during an interview on the SVP and Rusillo radio show on Thursday, and the All-Pro running back refused to say anything negative about his team. However, when the subject of playing elsewhere was raised, AP didn’t shy away from the notion.

“I’ll be a liar if I sit here and say that it’s something that hasn’t crossed my mind before,” Peterson said. “But I’ve also said to myself, ‘Wow, it’ll be so amazing to be one of those players who stays with one team his entire career.'”

Peterson continues to remain loyal to Minnesota, even as the team has failed to provide him with a quality quarterback during much of his career. Yet, when asked about heading back to his home state of Texas to play out his career, Peterson noted both the Cowboys and Texans as places he’s considered in the past.

“Being from Texas I’ve always wondered if it’d be cool to play in Dallas or play back home in Houston,” Peterson said. “But that’s not something I’ve really been thinking about this year.”

Peterson, 28, signed a seven-year, $96 million extension in 2011 that is set to keep him with the Vikings through the 2017 season. So, barring an unforeseen trade, the likelihood that he would play anywhere but Minnesota is unlikely. But, hey, a man can still dream.
